About UsServicesFAQContact

Through our 30 years of business, we are often asked many important questions. To help our customers get a better understanding of the importance of ready-mix concrete, we have collected a few of the questions that we are often asked by customers, as a resource to our customers and our future customers.

Have a more specific question? Give us a call at (562) 343 - 3979 today and we will be happy to help.

Q: What kind of concrete mix do I need?
A:
It depends on the job, here are two general types of ready-mix concrete. The first is called 1" rock or gravel, and this is usually distributed through the back of a truck. The second type, called pea gravel, is 3/8" rock and is usually pumped.

Q: How many yards of concrete do you need?
A: This will depend entirely on your project. Please take the measurements of the area and give us a call. We can provide a free estimate over the phone for you. Remember, some of the concrete will stay in the truck and/or pump, so be sure to compensate for this!

Q: How do I know if I need a pump?
A: There are three general ways of getting concrete from the ready-mix to where you need it to be:

  1. Place it using a chute on the truck. These typically extend about 12' from the back of the truck (allow for 14' clearance and 12' width for the truck itself)
  2. Pump it out using a pea gravel pump, which will cost more
  3. Wheelbarrow from the truck

If you are not able to get the truck within range of where you need it to be, you will have to use a pump or a wheelbarrow. One important factor to consider with a wheelbarrow is how much the concrete weighs - poured concrete weighs 4,000 pounds (per one yard).

Q: Does A K & W Materials form and finish the concrete?
A: No, we just provide trucks with ready mixed concrete but, if you do need your project formed or finished we can suggest one of our many contacts.
